What does amaze me is that those who opened the floodgates to immigration assumed that what worked (so reasonably well) for decades earlier with a few thousand immigrants per year (that is, they would integrate into existing society), would also work in the same way for hundreds of thousands if immigrants per year.
So many (at once) and they simply swamped certain areas, replacing rather than integrating with the existing communities.
Wouldn't surprise me if they also assumed the locals would put up with such wholesale changes to their communities and stay put - taking one for the racial harmony team.

Before you commit yourself to this subject, I'd recommend you read The Strange Death of Europe by Douglas Murray.
What you should be asking is why they are coming here, and in such numbers?
The biggest victims of Islamic terrorism and disgusting misogyny and racism are other Muslims, all they are doing is bringing this here.
We had quite a few Muslim immigrants who came here to flee oppressive islamic governments and theocratic administrations. So, what did we do, we imported their enemies and made life hell for them as well as others.
